The M65 Field Jacket, named after the year it was introduced, is a popular field jacket initially designed for the US military under the MIL-C-43455J standard.

Now a favorite of soldiers and civilians alike, this jacket is also commonly found on motorcycle riders, a niche that has another special place in Jamison’s heart.

This M65 was designed in collaboration between Whiskey Grade and Stock, and was handcrafted by the same operators that manufacture garments for the military, using the same care, precision and attention to detail.

For our newest collaboration, Stock has teamed up with Whiskey Grade founder Jamison Aweau to create a military inspired mini-capsule collection. Drawing on his 4 years of active duty as an Infantryman in the US Army, Jamison co-designed an M65 Field Jacket, as well as a modified version of a traditional Officer’s Shirt. The authenticity of this collection is solidified by our mil-spec certified Chicago factory, which has been manufacturing tailored garments for the US Military for over 40 years.

Whiskey Grade x Stock: Concepts

The Process

Jamison approached us with the idea of creating a modern interpretation of the classic M65-style jacket and CPO shirt.

We started with a standard silhouette and worked up a few different iterations.

There were a few fixed parameters that we wanted to keep, namely:

- Four front pockets
- Waist drawcord
- Zippered front with snap/button placket

From the initial phase, we narrowed down the details more finely, and Jamison suggested we move forward with a black (self) technical poly-blend fabric, rather than a conventional Army green.

The waist drawcord would be exposed on the interior rather than the exterior, and settled on welt pockets with snap-down flaps for the chest.

For hardware, we selected 3/8" metal grommets and 20L metal snaps.  A sturdy metal double zipper allows for maximum range of motion and comfort when sitting or standing.

Lastly, 8-Strand 550 Paracord would be used for the drawcord, for its strength, durability, and technical aesthetic, with custom made Horween Chromexcel cord locks to aid in adjustment.
